Import restrictions for Armenia 🇦🇲

General information

These rules are useful both for people carrying items across the border themselves and for those sending a parcel with a fellow traveller. Armenia is a member of the EAEU, so its limits are largely the same as Russia's.

When entering by car or train, you may import up to 25 kg of baggage duty-free; by air — up to 50 kg. This weight does not include personal belongings (the limit applies only to foreign goods), and the weight and value of alcohol are not counted.

The value of the baggage may not exceed EUR 10,000 by air, or EUR 500 by land. For amounts above the limit, a duty of 30% of the value of the excess portion is charged, but not less than EUR 4 per 1 kg of the excess weight.

A declaration can be submitted electronically through the trade.gov.am portal or in writing.

💰 Cash

The amount of cash in any currency (including cheques) must not exceed the equivalent of USD 10,000 — larger amounts must be declared.

For amounts over USD 100,000, you will need to provide documents confirming the lawful origin of the funds.

🍷 Tobacco and alcohol

You may import up to 3 litres of alcoholic products (over 0.5%) duty-free. For amounts above this — a duty of EUR 10 per litre over the limit; importing more than 5 litres is prohibited.

Tobacco products — duty-free within the limit:

• up to 200 cigarettes;
• up to 50 cigars or cigarillos;
• up to 200 tobacco sticks;
• up to 250 g of tobacco;
• or an assortment weighing no more than 250 g in total.

💻 Personal items

Used personal items are carried duty-free — smartphones, video cameras, clothing, laptops, travel gear, portable musical instruments, etc.

🍕 Food

To import meat and other animal products, a veterinary and sanitary certificate is required. Without one, up to 5 kg of animal products in factory packaging is allowed.

💊 Medicines

Medicines for personal use that do not contain narcotic or psychotropic substances are imported within the general limits for personal-use goods.

Medicines containing narcotic or psychotropic substances must be declared, with a copy of the prescription (translated into Armenian) issued in the name of the person carrying the medicine. Psychotropic substances not registered as medicines in Armenia may not be imported.

Important for senders: such medicines must be declared by the person who will take them; you may not carry them on behalf of another person.

🐶 Pets

You may bring up to 2 cats and dogs. The passport must contain a record of a clinical examination carried out no earlier than 14 days before departure.

🌸 Plants

To transport plants, fruit and vegetables, a phytosanitary certificate is required. Without one, you may import no more than 5 kg of plant products. Melons, watermelons and pumpkins — 1 of each; flower bouquets — no more than 3, up to 15 plants in each.

❌ Prohibited without special permits:

• works of art more than 50 years old;
• narcotic substances not registered as medicines;
• weapons and ammunition;
• dual-use goods;
• radiation-contaminated products.
