Import restrictions for Estonia 🇪🇪

General information

These rules are useful both for people carrying items across the border themselves and for those sending a parcel with a fellow traveller. You may import goods worth up to EUR 300 (by land) or EUR 430 (by sea or air) without declaration. For persons under 15, the limit is EUR 150. If the limit is exceeded, you must fill out an online declaration.

💰 Cash

You may bring in any amount, but amounts over EUR 10,000 must be declared (this can be done online). This includes not only banknotes and coins, but also gold bars and any securities.

🚬 Tobacco and alcohol

When entering by land, you may import duty-free no more than:

• 40 cigarettes;
• 100 cigarillos;
• 50 cigars;
• 50 g of tobacco;
• 20 ml of vape liquid;
• 20 g of alternative tobacco products.

Tobacco types may be imported at the same time if the total is no more than 100% of the allowance. For example: 12.5 g of tobacco (25%), 20 cigarettes (50%) and 5 cigarillos (25%).

When entering by sea, the allowances are higher:

• 200 cigarettes;
• 100 cigarillos;
• 50 cigars;
• 250 g of tobacco;
• 20 ml of vape liquid;
• 20 g of alternative tobacco products.

Alcohol duty-free:

• up to 1 L of spirits (22% and over) or 2 L of low-alcohol drinks (up to 22%);
• up to 4 L of still wine;
• up to 16 L of beer.

🍕 Food

It is strictly prohibited to import meat and dairy products from non-EU countries (as well as from some other states, for example Iceland or Greenland), including any products with milk or meat (milk chocolate, pastries, etc.).

Fruit and vegetables are prohibited, except for pineapples, coconuts, dates, durians and bananas; dried fruit, berries and nuts are allowed. Pet food and baby food for medical reasons — up to 2 kg.

💊 Medicines

You may import up to 10 types of medicines, 5 packages of each. Per package — no more than: 200 tablets; 500 g of powder; 50 granules; 500 ml of solutions for injection or oral use; 30 ampoules; 200 ml or 200 g of products for external use; 200 doses of inhalation medicines; 10 patches.

For a large amount, take a prescription from your doctor, issued in the name of the person carrying the medicine. Up to 1 package of medicines with narcotic or psychotropic substances may be carried without declaration if you have a prescription.

🐶 Pets

You may import pets duty-free. You will need a veterinary certificate or passport with rabies vaccination records, as well as a microchip. For a pet from a third country not on the EU's list of rabies-controlled countries, a rabies antibody blood test is additionally required (it is not needed for the USA, Canada, Japan and a number of other countries — it depends on the country of departure). For non-commercial import, you must fill out a declaration.

🌸 Plants

Any plants, their seedlings and seeds may not be imported without phytosanitary certificates.

❌ Prohibited without special permits:

• fireworks and explosive substances;
• cultural property;
• narcotic substances not used for medical purposes;
• products made from rare animals or plants, etc.
