Import restrictions for Poland 🇵🇱

General information
These rules are useful both for people carrying items across the border themselves and for those sending a parcel with a fellow traveller. Goods for personal use are exempt from duty if their total value does not exceed EUR 300 when entering by land or EUR 430 when entering by sea/air. For persons under 15, the limit is EUR 150. The limit does not apply to medicines, tobacco and alcohol (they have their own allowances).

💰 Cash
You may bring in any amount, but when bringing in EUR 10,000 or more (or the equivalent) you must fill out a customs currency declaration. This includes not only banknotes and coins, but also cheques, shares and other securities.
🚬 Tobacco and alcohol
When entering from non-EU countries by land, you may take no more than:
- 40 cigarettes;
- 20 cigarillos (up to 3 g each);
- 10 cigars;
- 10 ml of nicotine e-liquid;
- 50 g of tobacco.
When entering by air or sea — no more than:
- 200 cigarettes;
- 100 cigarillos (up to 3 g each);
- 50 cigars;
- 50 ml of nicotine e-liquid;
- 250 g of tobacco.
The allowances are not cumulative: by taking 200 cigarettes, you have used your whole limit; but you can take 100 cigarettes and 50 cigarillos, or 125 g of tobacco and 25 cigars.
Alcohol:
- up to 1 L of spirits (over 22%) or up to 2 L of low-alcohol drinks (up to 22%);
- up to 4 L of still wine;
- up to 16 L of beer.
The same calculation rules apply: you can take 4 L of beer, 1 L of wine, 0.5 L of vodka and 0.5 L of liqueur, but not 16 L of beer and 4 L of wine at the same time on top of the spirits allowance.
When entering from an EU country, the allowances are higher: up to 800 cigarettes, 400 cigarillos, 200 cigars, 1 kg of tobacco; up to 90 L of wine (up to 60 L sparkling), 110 L of beer, 20 L of other alcoholic drinks.
🍕 Food
Food without meat and milk may be carried for personal use duty-free. Fresh fruit and vegetables require declaration and a permit (phytosanitary certificate).
Meat and milk without certificates may be imported only from EU countries. From other countries — only baby food, powdered milk and pet food when medically necessary.
Caviar — up to 125 g. Fish may be imported duty-free up to a weight of 20 kg (a single fish weighing more — allowed whole).
💊 Medicines
For personal use, you may import up to 5 of the smallest packages of medicines that do not contain narcotic or psychotropic substances. For a larger amount, take a prescription from your doctor, issued in the name of the person carrying the medicine.
🐶 Pets
Without special permits, you may carry ferrets, dogs and cats (up to 5 animals). They must have a chip or tattoo and a veterinary certificate or passport with rabies vaccination records. For a pet from a third country not on the EU's list of rabies-controlled countries, a rabies antibody test is additionally required (it is not needed for the USA, Canada, Japan and a number of other countries — it depends on the country of departure).
🌸 Plants
It is prohibited to import any plants into Poland without a phytosanitary certificate, except for bananas, coconuts, dates, pineapples and durians.
❌ Prohibited without special permits:
- drugs;
- pornographic material;
- cultural property more than 50 years old;
- weapons and ammunition;
- products made from endangered animals, etc.
